Starting Secondary School | Year 7
What to Expect
We are thrilled that you will be joining the St Edward’s community and look forward to getting to know you all over the next 7 years!
This is a hugely exciting time and much anticipated and we are sure you will have an excellent start to secondary school.
Before starting with us you will receive:
- A welcome letter from the Headteacher.
- A personal details form to collect your information.
- Full details of the school uniform and equipment.
- You will have a Transition Day where you will be able to meet your new friends and teachers.
- A Transition Booklet to complete and show off everything you have learned at Primary School.
How Parents/Carers can help
Please discuss with children how they are feeling about starting secondary school. It can come with a range of emotions from excitement to fear of the unknown. Regular discussion in the lead up to starting secondary school really helps including looking at the website and watching our school film so they have something exciting to look forward to. When your child starts in September, if you have any concerns or want an update on how your child is setting in please give us a call or send an email and we will be pleased to update you on their transition into St Edward’s.
What the school will do
- During the transition process we will keep families updated with information about the school.
- We will work with LB Havering to ensure all student information is successfully transferred to their new school.
- We will gather information from Primary schools about academic progress, strengths and friendship groups.
SEND Support
We manage the transition process for all students carefully, however if your child has a SEND need we will speak to families directly and arrange a meeting, if necessary, to support with the transition process.
Sometimes students join us for an afternoon in the Summer Term to meet the staff and become familiar with the layout of the school. Sometimes we will visit a student in their primary school to get to know them a little better!
