About the Course
The focus is for students to develop their linguistic abilities as outlined by the skills below and also study the culture and society of the countries where the target language is spoken. Students will study at least one literary text or one film at AS and a further text from a prescribed list (set by AQA) in the second year of A-level.
It is expected that students will have achieved at least the equivalent of GCSE Grade 6 in the relevant language before taking this course. It is essential to make your subject teacher aware as early as possible that you are considering continuing with a language to AS or A-Level and seek advice.

- Paper 2 – Writing (20%)
- Paper 3 – Speaking (30%)
Some students choose to do degree courses in languages; others choose to pursue a Higher Education course in another subject, but choose a language option alongside it.
Having a language at A-Level will certainly improve your employability, in particular in companies which have international branches.
