Design and Technology is an exciting, innovative and relevant subject that enables students to explore and make sense of the technologies enjoyed by our society today. This is an inspiring, rigorous and practical subject that encourages students to learn to think and intervene creatively to solve problems, both as individuals and as members of a team.
Everything man-made has been designed and we give our students the chance to participate in this creative, inventive world – emulating the role of designers and makers. Design and Technology gives a real sense of the world of work.
Students leave St Edward’s as:
Creative problem solvers
Young adults who understand that we have to work towards a sustainable future
At St Edward’s Academy, we encourage students to use their creativity and imagination, to design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts. We also make links to designs and designers throughout history, providing opportunities for learners to critically reflect possible, upon and evaluate their design.
We aim to, wherever possible, link work to other disciplines such as mathematics, science, engineering, computing and art. This gives the learning purpose and relevance to students.
Curriculum Theological Underpinnings
“.. and I have filled him with the spirit of God, with wisdom, with understanding, with knowledge and with all kinds of skills – to make artistic designs for work in gold, silver and bronze, to cut and set stones, to work in wood, and to engage in all kinds of crafts.”
God appointed and honoured those who designed and built the tabernacle as a meeting place with God. These practical skills are still a sign of inspiration and talent and we want all pupils to be given an opportunity to develop these skills.
