Our aim: to provide the best quality food and lunch and break time experience for our studentsWe endeavour to ensure that the food served in our school meets the highest standards in terms of health and nutrition. We provide balanced meals that meet the Healthy Schools criteria. This means no fizzy drinks or crisps are served, there are no vending machines, and foods high in sugar and salt are not available. With our in-house catering service, the service and quality of food is under scrutiny by students (both through the school council and other student voice projects) as well as staff. We will promote students’ understanding of these issues in assemblies, through our citizenship and PSHE curriculum, and during mealtimes. .

Healthy food and food awareness for a successful school communityWe know that experience elsewhere has shown that healthy school food has a range of positive effects. A recent report notes that twelve authorities say they have seen improvements in behaviour of students, including better concentration, and calmer and more alert behaviour in class. They say this has resulted in an increased capacity to learn and reduced absenteeism.
We hope that introducing our healthy food programme will help promote understanding among our students and parents of the importance of nutrition as well as insights into the enormously important issue of global food production and trade.
