Students show off their language skills!
Language learning is inspirational and boring?
Eight of our students proved the opposite and demonstrated the joy of achieving in foreign languages. They represented St Edward’s at the “Speak to Me” competition held at Seven Kings High School in Ilford on 12th July 2017.
This competition format is tried and tested and has seen thousands of young learners enjoying modern foreign languages. Initially they prepared a dialogue with a partner in German or Spanish; they learnt the lines, rehearsed them with their partners, added some drama and had to perform in front of the class where their class mates voted for them as the class winner.
At the next step, each pair had to compete with the other class winners of that year group. Mr Fritsch, Head of Languages, judged and found our finalists for Seven Kings. On competition day more than 120 finalists from more than 10 schools competed against each other. The competition was fierce but our students did very well despite some nerves.
At the end, St Edward’s Year 7 students received a special mention as the overall winners of all German speaking participants. “Fantastisch”! We are looking forward to another exciting “Speak to Me” competition next year with even more winners from St Edward’s.
