A welcome from the Headteacher

Dear Parents, students and friends of St Edward’s,

Welcome to our school. St Edward’s Church of England School and Sixth Form College has a long history and was founded in 1710 to educate the poor children of Romford. Since those days the school has gone from strength to strength and has provided a Christian education for young men and women from the age of 11 to 18. We pride ourselves on offering a traditional Christian ethos, alongside a modern and relevant curriculum, with a focus upon care and nurture of each individual. Our staff are committed to the development of every student and through a personalised curriculum and excellent Learning Support Department we seek to meet this goal.

St Edward’s is a specialist Language and Science College and is involved in local, national and international outreach. Most students love studying languages and Science and that is due to the enthusiasm and expertise of our staff.

St Edward’s has links with schools in many countries and this includes, China, South Africa, The Gambia, Cuba and many European nations. For this work St. Edward’s was recognised by the British Council and awarded the International School Award.

In addition to offering A levels, we are proud to be the only institution in Havering teaching the International Baccalaureate programme – one of the most widely respected sixth form qualifications, highly academic and thoroughly recommended for both future employment and for securing a place at University in the UK or abroad.

We are a well resourced school and continue to improve our facilities for the benefit of staff and students. Staff are engaged in continuous professional development to constantly refine their craft, and students are encouraged to develop an active voice in the school.

We recognise that every child has one school life and that together we must make it count. We want each child to be happy at school in order that they can fulfil their potential.

We have high expectations of our students. They are expected to wear full school uniform and we esteem the qualities of tolerance, courtesy and hard work in the daily life of the school. Whilst our students are very successful academically we regard the provision of broader educational opportunities as equally important. At the heart of our provision is the partnership between school, church and home; together we can provide the best for each child.

I hope that you find our website informative and that it gives you some insight into what life is like at St Edward’s. Please contact me further if you would like more information or would like to visit the school.

With best wishes, The Reverend Alan Perry. Headteacher
